Thank you to our wonderful helpers, those who allow us to place signs on their land, lend us fields for camping and car parks. All our exhibitors and traders, the emergency services, all of you who help us in the most amazing ways. Remember that the organisation and running of this rally is totally by un paid volunteers, the co-operation of local residents and land owners enable it to happen, it can be very inconvenient for them, our thanks for your patience for our disrupting your weekend and of course to you our visitors, without your support there would be no rally, your cash contribution at the gate make it happen, we make sure it goes where it should, to the good causes We the 'helpers' enjoy seeing you all enjoying yourselves, and try our hardest to give you value for money, we get our reward as volunteers seeing it all happen. We have also been known to drink a gallon or three (just to help the bar takings!) Come and enjoy yourselves Even in wet weather the site does not get too muddy, if you get tired of walking around the exhibits you can always sit down and enjoy one of the best views in Northamptonshire, dogs and even children are more than welcome, but please keep them both on a lead The whole atmosphere is we hope very informal and friendly, although like this web site it does have It's own strange sense of humour. We invite your comments on the rally or the web site, we are always seeking to improve. Complaints are encouraged and answered. This web site like the rally operates on a non commercial basis, Email us if you require more Information on what is on offer at one of the largest local attractions, an extravaganza to tickle the taste buds (and wallets) of our visitors
HISTORY The Rally was started 23 years ago with the Vicar asking Allen Eaton our numero uno honcho and chairman for a contribution to the church building fund, Allen said no, he would put on a small steam engine rally instead! missing one year with foot and mouth we are at our 21st going from 4 acres and begging exhibitors to attend to our present 24 acres jam packed and a waiting list for exhibitors and traders With no site and three steamers the saga started. I personally have fond memories of 3am rally morning sand papering the edges of the hole in the plank over the ditch that served as the ladies toilet! all of us have our rally tales and memories, most of them unprintable! some involving driving steamers in the wee small hours and scrounging equipment from the likes of McAlpine's a huge help and expecting no accolade - we still do, we even use nails at least twice, but have relented with softish toilet paper. Apart from more grey hair the hard core committee members are in the main the same crew, look for organiser on the 'T' shirt, dirty hands and jeans and a worried look if you have a problem Now we are a little more organised with proper toilets - (traditionalists can obtain a hedge pass from administration!) - even hot showers on site, electricity, and we own the field. We are not perfect, roads for example can get very congested around Hollowell but we do try and learn from our mistakes. So please try and bear with us and follow instructions from the marshals, sorry if we have problems at times, we try our best while keeping expenses down so your contribution at the gate goes to the recipients of the local causes who ask for our financial help WANTED - WE ARE ACE SCROUNGERS EVEN IF IT IS BROKEN WE WILL FIX IT AND USE IT! Construction materials, Timber, Paint, (new nails!) Machinery & Plant of all types. Spot something on the site you can improve on? Can you entertain our visitors? let us know If you are a land owner and have a good site for for our main road sign boards within 20 miles of the rally this would be a great help. We erect and remove again after the show promptly Anything in fact you have, we can borrow, or you can do that you think could be put to good use by us get in touch, we may even use your body at the rally in some position if it is offered!
A special thanks to Brixworth Engineering for the loaning of a lorry and the fuel to enable us to do the signposting. We do try to clean away the chip papers and lolly pop sticks before returning PLAIN & SIMPLE SITE WE ARE AWARE NOT ALL HAVE BROADBAND -- MOST PHOTO'S EXPAND ONLY IF YOU CLICK ON THEM CONSTANT UPDATES -- WITH APOLOGIES -- STEAM AT WORK! - PLEASE EMAIL ANY PROBLEMS TO US OR CLICK http://www.hollowellsteam.com/TO RELOAD Last Updated 06-May-2008 Please note that the information given on this web site is entered by a novice - we do not guarantee that it is 100% accurate neither can we guarantee that all advertised exhibitors will attend
